How do I get to Cornell and find my residence?
You can find links to directions and approach maps here. Be sure to follow the signs, and be aware that GPS devices aren't always accurate on campus.
Can I move in before August 19?
No, the undergraduate residences do not open until Friday August 19 at 8:00am.
Do I have to move in during my assigned move-in time?
You will not be permitted to move in before your timeslot begins, but you may check in after your timeslot. Be sure to print out your unloading permit, available on the New Students To-Do List beginning August 1, and display it on your dashboard when you get to campus. This will allow you to park temporarily in front of your building during your time block while you unload your car. (Exceptions: Residents of 112 Edgemoor and Schuyler House may move in any time between 8:00am and 5:00pm on August 21.)

What should I pack?
Visit What to Bring for suggestions about what to bring … and rules about what to leave behind.
How should I pack?
It's a good idea to mark all belongings with your name, room number, and residence hall. Be sure to have all small items boxed for easy transfer. There is no storage available in the residential buildings, so items should be packed in cardboard boxes that can be recycled, or in soft, foldable luggage that can be easily stored in a closet or under a bed. Stackable crates and organizers that fit under the bed can also work well.
Does Cornell University insure my personal property?
Cornell does not insure your personal property. You will want to make certain that you cell phone, laptop, clothing, and other personal property items are covered for incidents that result in damage or loss of your belongings. If you are not currently covered under a policy with your family, consider Cornell University's preferred personal property insurance provider, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. Participation in this plan is optional, but strongly encouraged. Find out more here.
Can I ship items to my room ahead of Opening Day?
Yes. Cornell's preferred vendor is Big Red Shipping & Storage, a student-run agency that will have your items waiting in your room when you arrive.
If you mail any packages yourself, please make sure items are clearly marked with your name, NetID, and mailing address; you can pick up these mailed packages at your Service Center or House Office. Please note that Service Centers will begin accepting student mail and packages beginning Monday, August 15.
If you must ship earlier than that date, please contact Big Red
Shipping & Storage. It's important to note that due to heavy
shipping volume during the first two weeks after opening, you may
experience short delays in receiving packages.
Can I shop for my room once I get on campus?
Yes. Many families, particularly those traveling from a distance or flying, wait until they get to Ithaca before buying items like bedding, towels, organizational units, school supplies, and toiletries. Many items can be bought at The Cornell Store's Dorm Essentials tent sale; others can be found at the nearby mall or in stores in downtown Ithaca.
Is storage space available?
Not on campus. Big Red Shipping & Storage, Cornell's preferred vendor, also provides storage service.
What will I be expected to do after I move in?
Visit Residential & New Student Programs for information about Fall 2017 Orientation activities.
Where can my parents stay overnight?
